Hi I’m Kelly.

I’ve been making things in clay for most of my life. Making pottery that suits its purpose with beauty and effectiveness is my goal. 

Using handmade objects in our daily lives can make an ordinary experience, ‘extra-ordinary’; cause us to pause and embrace the moment. This is what I want my pottery to do.

The time, energy and decision making behind each piece I make holds joy and satisfaction for me. My hope is that these who use my pottery share in those feelings. Sharing the making process has been an important part of my studio practice, so whether you visit virtually or physically…

Kelly’s Background & Education

  • Grew up in Libby Montana, graduated in 1978

  • Attended Northwest Nazarene (now University) & graduated with honors and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1982.

  • IIntern one summer at the Hockaday Museum, now Glacier Art Museum in Kalispell Montana.

  • Received a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from Utah State University in 1989.

  • Taught multiple Adult Education classes, children’s classes, and summer workshops for drawing, painting, and pottery in Montana, Idaho, and Colorado.

  • Along with a number of other local potters, established Clay Works of the Bitterroot, a shared space for individual potter and pottery classes in Hamilton, Montana.

  • Taught Beginning Wheel Throwing, managing and firing electric kiln and glazes, making Teapots and cups at Clay Works of the Bitterroot.

  • Participated in Montana Artrepeneur program (MAP’s) a state wide program teaching artists professionalism and sound business practices.
